Edit your form, questions and emails

Start a new project, then change colours, questions, copy and emails in the dashboard, with a live preview of the real form and emails.

Starting a new project

Click New project above your list of launches. You choose:

  • a name, which you can change later;
  • a slug: the address of your hosted page (/p/your-slug) and your project key (pk_your-slug). It stays fixed once the project exists;
  • the languages: English, Dutch or both;
  • the sites your form may run on. You can leave this empty; then only the hosted page works;
  • the sender of your emails, from the addresses Waitlark may send from. You can't type an address of your own: an unverified sender would let anyone send email in someone else's name. Without a sender, no emails go out, not even the confirmation email.

A new project starts as a draft, with double opt-in and the welcome email on, so nobody can sign up yet. You land in Settings, which lists what is left before going live: your sites added to the bot check, email sending set up for your sender's domain, and the status set to Live.

Editing

Everything a visitor sees comes from your project's settings. You change them in the dashboard under Edit, in five tabs:

TabWhat you change
BrandYour colours, corners, style, fonts and logo, with every touchpoint side by side (see below).
QuestionsThe questions at signup and in the welcome flow, their options and their copy per language.
CopyEvery text on the form, after signup, in the welcome flow, on the hosted page and on Waitlark's own pages. An empty field uses the standard text.
EmailsThe confirmation and welcome email: the standard email in your colours, or your own HTML.
SettingsName, status, languages, double or single opt-in, a signup limit or closing date, the sites your form may run on, and your own thank-you and error pages.

Your brand everywhere

The Brand tab sets your brand once, and every touchpoint follows: the form on your site, the hosted page, the confirmation and welcome email, and Waitlark's own pages for confirming and unsubscribing. Next to your choices you see all of them at once, live; click one to see it large.

  • Match everything: pick one main colour and click Match everything. Waitlark works out the background, panel, text and button text, always with readable contrast. Add your own text or paper colour if you have one. You can still change each colour by hand afterwards.
  • Button text picks itself when you leave it empty: whichever reads best on your button.
  • Corners: sharp, soft or round.
  • Style: flat (no borders), line (ink borders) or sticker (borders with a hard shadow).
  • Fonts: a font for headings and one for text. These are system fonts: nothing is loaded from elsewhere, so no requests to third parties, and they also work in emails. The form on your own site keeps your site's font.
  • Logo: the https address of an image, for example on your own site. It appears at the top of the emails, the hosted page and Waitlark's pages.

Emails with your own HTML keep their own design; the brand applies to the standard emails.

The live preview

The preview next to the editor is the real form, built from your unsaved changes. You can type an email address and click through the welcome flow; nothing is sent. The email previews are made by the same code that sends the real emails, with example links and spot 142 in line.

Switch the language at the top to edit and preview the copy for each language.

Saving

  • Nothing goes live until you click Save. Your sites show the change within five minutes.
  • Red messages block saving: something would break the form or an email, such as a confirmation email without {{confirm_url}}. Other messages are tips, such as low colour contrast or a question without a label in one of your languages.
  • If someone else saved in the meantime, you get a warning instead of overwriting their change.

Earlier versions

Every save is kept as a version, under Settings. Open an older version in the editor, check it in the preview, and save to bring it back.

The fine print under your form is the consent text. When you change it, Waitlark keeps the new text as a new version, so for every person on your list you can still see which text they agreed to.

What stays fixed

The key of a question or option (such as store_url) is fixed once you save. Answers are stored under that key, so changing it would separate old answers from new ones. You can always change the label people see.
